Exploring Current Issues in Substance Abuse and Addiction

Asian Association for Substance Abuse Research (AASAR) is pleased to announce a call for papers for our 9th annual meeting. We invite researchers, practitioners, and academics from around the world to submit their latest work on a wide range of topics relating to substance abuse and addiction.

 

I. Scope and Topics

 

The conference aims to encourage multidisciplinary discussions and collaborations, shedding light on new psychoactive substances, emerging patterns of abuse and addiction, innovative treatment models, and the role of new technologies in addressing these challenges. Topics of interest include, but are not limited to:

 

1. New Psychoactive Substances (NPS): Identification, prevalence, and impact of novel psychoactive drugs, including synthetic opioids, cannabinoids, and stimulants. Discussions on the challenges posed by these substances in terms of detection, regulation, and public health.

 

2. Emerging Patterns of Abuse and Addiction: Exploration of new trends in substance abuse, including the co-use of multiple substances, the influence of sociocultural factors, and the impact of the COVID-19 pandemic on substance use disorders.

 

3. Innovative Treatment Models: Examination of novel evidence-based treatment approaches, including pharmacological, psychological, and harm reduction strategies. Assessment of the effectiveness of these models in treating substance use disorders and promoting long-term recovery.

 

4. Technology and Substance Abuse Treatment: Discussion of the role of digital technologies, such as ChatGPT, telehealth, and mobile applications, in improving access to treatment, facilitating early intervention, and enhancing the effectiveness of therapy.

 

5. Prevention and Public Health: Analysis of effective prevention strategies, policies, and programs to address substance abuse and addiction at the population level. Evaluation of the role of public health initiatives in mitigating the impact of substance use disorders.

 

II. Submission Guidelines

 

Abstract/Paper Submission: All abstracts or papers should be submitted by email to info@aasar.asia. Submission for conference presentation must include a title and abstract of no more than 250 words, along with author information. The deadline for abstract/paper submission is July 31, 2023.

 

Participants who submit a full paper will be given priority for conference presentation. Author(s) whose abstract/paper is selected for presentation will receive an official notification by September 1, 2023. Papers submitted to the conference will be selected for publication in Asian Journal on Addictions, the official journal of Asian Association for Substance Abuse Research. Authors are encouraged to use the Word template (see Appendix I) for Asian Journal on Addictions as the standard format of the research paper.

All participants who submit a paper/abstract should fill in the Application Form for Asian Association for Substance Abuse Research Annual Meeting 2023 (see Appendix II) and send it together with your paper/abstract to the AASAR conference committee at: info@aasar.asia.

 

III. Workshop on the Application of AI in Substance Abuse Research and Practices

·       The workshop will focus on using AI technologies, especially ChatGPT, to improve substance abuse research and practices, including early detection and diagnosis, personalized treatment planning, behavioral interventions, data analysis and research, etc.

·       Cost: free for registered meeting attendees; additional charge may be applicable to others.

VII. Best Paper Awards

The meeting organizers will select 10 papers for Best Paper Awards. To be eligible for a Best Paper Award, the lead author must be 45 years old or younger. The paper can be in either English or Chinese. Chinese papers should be no longer than 7,000 words while English papers should not exceed 30 pages (double-spaced). Papers submitted for the award must have not been published previously.
