Asian Association for Substance Abuse Research Annual Meeting 2022

Addictions in Asia

Call for Papers

The theme of the 2022 annual meeting of Asian Association for Substance Abuse Research (AASAR) is addictions in Asia. For this meeting, we will welcome research papers and presentations on a wide range of addictive behaviors, including but not limited to tobacco addiction, alcohol addiction, drug dependence, gambling addiction, internet addiction, videogame addiction, shopping addiction, exercise addiction, and sex addiction.  Methodologically, we are open to different approaches, including qualitative, quantitative, and mixed methods research as well as theoretical and policy analysis. Unlike the previous annual meetings, the language of the abstracts, papers and presentations is restricted to English.

Addictions are pervasive problems that affect millions of people in the world today. The understanding of the distribution and causes of addictions serve as the basis for effective policies and practices to reduce the negative consequences of addictive behaviors. With the advances in scientific and behavioral approaches, there have been significant progresses in research on addictions in the last several decades. However, much of this research has taken place in the West. Studies examining addictive behaviors and their consequences in Asian countries have been limited. The main purpose of this conference is to bring together scholars and practitioners from Asia to share their research on addictive behaviors and their experiences in developing effective prevention and treatment programs to reduce the problems. While it focuses on Asia, the conference also aims at facilitating more broadly based exchanges on addiction research. Much can be learned from the insights and experiences of scholars and professionals who are involved in addiction research elsewhere in the world and from scientific evidence accumulated through research and program evaluations. Therefore, we will also welcome participants from other parts of the world who will bring international or comparative perspectives on the distribution, causes and consequences of addictions as well as effective prevention and treatment strategies addressing the issues of addiction.

Participants who submit a full paper will be given priority for conference presentation. Author(s) whose abstract/paper is selected for presentation will receive an official notification by September 15, 2022. Papers submitted to the conference will be selected for publication in Asian Journal on Addictions, the official journal of Asian Association for Substance Abuse Research, with the consent of the author(s).
